Keep in mind that I only made it through five or six pages before I gave up. The girl is a minor with a fake ID in a bar, and she decides to jump over the counter and help him serve when it gets busy.
It was weird. That wouldn't happen, ever. I'm going to add the corniness factor in with the book being unrealistic because I would hope that no one on earth talks or acts like this. His soft lips seemed to match mine perfectly. I was actually too shocked to kiss him back.
When he pulled away he was smirking at me, so obviously I looked a little shocked. My whole body was screaming for more and I wanted to grab him and rip his clothes off and have him take me in the middle of the bar.
The first quote I included was just cheesy. The second, he flicked her on the nose! How is that flirty or cute? He does it again too! And the last one, you have your first kiss, five pages in. And this chick wants to fuck him right in the bar The pacing was terrible. It felt very strange to read. I don't feel like it was edited at all!
How could it be? And if it was, well, the author needs a refund. Here's just one example, though there were many within the first few pages. We've been waiting ten minutes," some guy shouted, waving his hard around angrily.
Easy fix if someone was paying attention. Shit, maybe the editor didn't notice the errors because she was too busy rolling her eyes I apologize if the editor was a man. I'm just assuming that no man would read this. I'm not trying to be an asshole, but this was just horrible. I barely even started so maybe it improves, but my guess is probably not. Sep 28, Erin rated it liked it. I'm going to try to cover both the things I enjoyed and the things I disliked, but I'm afraid there are more of the latter. When I read the summary for this last week, my initial reaction was "oh yay, this sounds good!
It's about a teenager who sneaks into a bar obviously fake ID and starts dating the bartender Will obviously over 21 , only to find out he's her high school teacher ooookay, so she's a minor?? But despite these doubts, I decided this sounded too intriguing to pass up and I dove in.
Chloe is indeed a minor, having just turned 17 only 3 months prior to meeting Will. I kept an open mind about it, though, and I did get into the chemistry between them despite the obvious issue that it's technically rape in the eyes of the law. But things started going south for me once Chloe goes back to school and finds out that Will is her teacher.
Chloe became quite possibly one of the most self-absorbed, clueless characters I have ever read and I really struggled to overlook her faults and get back into the love story behind it all. I could chalk some of her naive and immature behavior up to her being a teen, but honestly I just wanted to throttle her more often than not. I mean, besides the fact that she doesn't really consider what their relationship would mean for Will's future if they were caught until they actually ARE caught, she kind of just went around contemplating everything but always just running circles in her mind.
Some things that are so utterly and completely obvious to the reader, she takes over half the book to figure out the phrase "what on earth? And the "awww, that's so freaking sweet", "so freaking adorable", "so freaking perfect" comments became really monotonous. I'm getting a little nit-picky, but honestly the story was just amateurish at times. You can tell when a great deal of thought and research about the storyline is put into the writing for a book, and it was just lacking here.
Some of the time lapses didn't line up, there were aspects of the plot that couldn't actually happen, and there was a great deal of this long book that could have been edited out for no other reason that to remove unnecessary fillers. So yes, I've ranted about things I didn't like, so now on to what I did enjoy.
I'm a hopeless romantic, so unless a character really drives me batty I'll always hope for the HEA. As much as Chloe irritated the you-know-what out of me, I still wanted her and Will to find some way to be together.
I was secretly hoping she'd finally grow up and stop being so selfish, and she did finally put Will before her own needs. Will, god love him, was so over-the-moon for Chloe, and I just fell hard for him. I hated that he had to stand by and watch her flirt with every boy that was in 10 yards of her, and I would have loved to see his POV at times. He puts up with so much from her, and I just loved him to bits!!
I absolutely adored Sam, Will's year-old brother who becomes Chloe's dear friend. He was quick-witted, flirty, and all-around just a fun character. Chloe's friends Nick and Amy were great supporting characters, too, I liked that she had more than just one BFF girl pal to turn to all through the story. As for the steamy moments between Will and Chloe, they were pretty good; they were geared more toward the younger YA readers with the 'say it, but leave out the details' scenes, though.
I liked the way Rae wraps things up in the end, albeit a little too neatly. She leaves you feeling like everything happened the way it should have after all their issues were dealt with, and I was happy with it. I'm giving this book somewhere between a 2. If you're looking for another Slammed, this isn't it, but it's a decent love story in it's own right. View all 22 comments. I didn't enjoy this book at all. The characters were not realistic in my option and the pace was too slow and the story had a bit too much detail. I didn't understand why Will liked Chloe in the first place. She was so immature and extremely annoying for her age she often stuck out her tongue and said stupid things. What really confused me is that Will and Chloe were intimate to the point that they started sleeping together, but Will didn't know how old Chloe was.
It is just not possible. Moreo I didn't enjoy this book at all. Moreover, Chloe agreed to go to Will's apartment only hours after they first met in a club. She must have been either stupid or too trusting to do so. After all, she didn't know him and going to his place at one in the morning like this for a year-old girl was just a dumb thing to do.
I didn't like the wording either. The author kept using the same words repeatedly "or something, cute, cutie In short, I don't recommend this book to anyone who loves their book fast and fun since this one is just too slow and a real pain to read.

I liked it a lot better than Colleen Hoover's Slammed if I'm honest. If you're into student-teacher affair novels, then you should definitely give When Summer Ends a try.
View all 5 comments. Unfortunately, I was sadly wrong. Firstly, the author is obviously not American, based on her spelling. I'm assuming from the UK, as words like "realise" and "humour" are the correct spelling over there, not in the US.
It was distracting to keep reading words that were obviously misspelled for an American reader. The book is based in the US. Additionally, the book is very drawn out and just soooo boring and slow at times. I've read other reviews that say the same, and now I understand what they meant. There were so many scenes that were pointless and should have been cut by an editor. So they hook up sexually, then the find out he's the teacher, she's the student. As a result, abrupt break-up.
Throughout this time, Chloe "dates" Ollie, and a specific scene in which she's talking to Will about her "boyfriend" confused the hell out of me. Then the author decides to change the way Chloe and Will feel, by setting up a scene in Will's car, where Chloe talks to Will about her "boyfriend" Ollie, as if she's talking to one of her girlfriends.
Then the next chapter, we're back to Will showing "subtle" signs of being jealous. Ugh Make up your mind already, on what your characters personality and agenda is!! Who the hell calls his girlfriend, "Cutie"?? I don't even call my KIDS that nickname. It had a little creepy-factor, with him being years older than her, and her teacher. Overall, the author had a great idea for the story, but the execution didn't match that.
It's too rough around the edges and in need of a few changes take out the "cutie" crap , and a lot of editing by an american editor. View 1 comment. Sep 04, BookHeroin rated it really liked it Shelves: favorite , blew-my-mind , romance , read-in In When Summer Ends the two main characters actually got to know each other and dated for almost two months before they discovered that he was her teacher.
Knowing that he would be sent to jail but he didn't care at all, which is why i loved him even more. When Chloe Henderson goes to a club with her friend she meets this cute bartender. Of course she has to be 21 to be in in the first place which is why he assumed that she was older.
Anyway she helps him in the rush hour, then after work he took her eating pizza then he took her the day after to his sister's wedding as a first date! Really O. Their imperfections made them perfect.
When Summer Ends have lots of funny situations. But it also was unbelievable sweet. Morris the hottie loved her with such passion.
He was a player but when something is right you kind of change and grow in to the person that you want your loved one be with.
He wanted to be perfect for her, he wanted to be a better man for her. Every second I spend with you is better than the one before, but I honestly don't know how that works, because how the hell can you improve on perfection? But you do all the time.
You just amaze me. He was the one for me. The one that would drive me crazy and make me laugh even when I was sad. He was the one I wanted to hold me when I cried, the one I wanted to call when I had happy news. He was just the one. It had been a life altering experience, and I knew that if for whatever reason this didn't work out with him, he would always be the one I compared everyone else to.
He would always be the one that totally rocked my world. You have the typical mean girls, the adorable ex. The current admirer. The funny slut guy. The bestfriends. The strict scary dad. Chloe Henderson One of them main characters. Loved her so much. She's out spoken, fun. I just really liked that she wasn't perfect. Like i said before their imperfections made them perfect. I loved him. I want a book about him ASAP. Amy The bff. She's cute i really liked her. I reallllly loved this guy he's super awesome, and great guy.
At the end he really got his happily ever after :' My dislikes This book was a great read but there were some dislikes. It was longer than my like but i never felt bored at all! But lots of other readers hated this book only coz it's long.
Other dislike is that annoying this when any character laugh the writer say "He burst laughing" "I burst laughing" "She burst giggling"! I felt a little sad about Sam but he kind of had that ending were YOU as a reader get to decide his future , For example if he get to have a relationship with that girl or not.
Anyway i enjoyed this book. The answer is yes if you have the time and the patient to read long book about that "forbidden pleasure" between a student and a teacher then yes go for it. I mean how can you date a guy for weeks, spend every day with him but never broach the subject of school and work. So she says "I go to school" and he assumes she means college.
Ok, believable. But are you telling me he never bothered to ask her what she was studying at college? And he lands a brand new job as a teacher but it doesn't dawn on him to mention to his girlfriend "hey guess what?
I'm starting a new job tomorrow at the local high school! The book was so overbearingly cheesy. How many times can you use the line "oh my days" in one book? At least a dozen according to Isabelle Rae. What 17 year old talks like that?? But the thing that absolutely killed it for me and made me decide that I didn't want to waste another minute of my life reading this book was his stupid nickname for her. Please just wait here while I vomit in my mouth. View 2 comments. Aug 29, Britney rated it it was amazing Shelves: my-favs.
Before I started this book I read some reviews- positive and negative. I knew I would either love it or hate it… I am happy to say that I loved this book!! Chloe is a strong and multi dimensional character. Smart, funny, quirky, beautiful and feisty. I really connected with Chloe and could feel just how hard everything was for her and the reason behind her decisions. Heartbreak is never easy! No one thinks clearly when suffering from a broken heart. Rationality can definitely go out the window.
Considering that this is a 17 year old girl whose had her heart crushed, she dealt with everything very well. In fact, she handled it all much better than Will. I loved Chloe! When I was composed again, I walked out of the bathroom, keeping my eyes firmly on the floor, not wanting people to see me and know I had been crying.
I loved how he treated Chloe when they were together. He worshiped the ground she walked on. He doted on her and made her feel loved and special every day. He sacrificed his own heart when he thought it was what Chloe needed. Yet he never dove into bed with woman after woman.
I respected him for never trying to forget about Chloe by going out and being a man-whore. I hoped you would because you deserve to be happy. The side characters were also great. He was my favorite. He was funny and loved to poke at Will and drive him nuts. He was also hilarious. I swear I laughed every single time that Sam was around. I half wanted Chloe to end up with him. I loved how he genuinely cared about Chloe and everything he did for Chloe and Will. I would love to see Sam get his own book!!
The guy smirked back at me, his eyes twinkling with mischievousness. She was hilarious. She was a riot and I loved her! He was sweet and a true friend! I was extremely and pleasantly surprised by this book! If I had set expectations before reading it, this book would have exceeded them.
I loved this book as much as the Slammed series, if not more! Go check it out and see what you think ; Finally, I am so done with this novel. I am torn between hating it and loving it - but I guess, it's more of the former.
I absolutely hated her as the story progresses. Incidence is above cases per , population over a week - the threshold above which authorities say they must impose stricter distancing rules to stop the healthcare system being overburdened.
